Danny Palladini is a 70 year old law abiding, active, productive and honoured Montrealer, Quebecer and proud Canadian. He has lived at Manoir Roger Bernard, an OMHM senior’s residence, in Pierrefonds for 10 years. He has received recognition for his volunteer efforts from the Federal Government, the Lester B. Pearson School Board for teaching new Immigrants English and the Multiple Sclerosis Society for fund raising. He persuaded Pierrefonds to recycle land for use as a playground for children and his efforts led to a speed bump on his street, where there is a school, a park and seniors’ residences.
Why is Danny being evicted from his home?
Danny, with the help of a handful of equally active seniors, reactivated a tenant’s association at Manoir Roger Bernard, a subsidized senior’s residence administered by the Office municipal d’Habitation de Montreal. His desire to use his life skills to make life better for fellow residents backfired. Long time administrators do not like being asked questions about finances by pesky old tenants. Through a campaign of character assassination, intimidation, and strategic legal proceedings they are seeking to silence him by evicting him, and through their lawyer, verbally threatening any senior who tries to expose the truth about the case against Danny. He has spent a large portion of his meager life savings, his health is rapidly deteriorating and he cannot afford competent legal counsel to help him battle those who put their own interest before the interest of the seniors they are paid to serve.
